Workforce is dedicated to creating relationships that effectively
utilize the skilled workforce in rural
Virginia and offer skilled workers to companies in Northern Virginia.
The early 1980’s
brought unprecedented growth to Northern Virginia—unparallel in other
regions of the
Commonwealth. Concerned with this
disparity, leaders in business, government, and education examined the
potential to promote economic expansion statewide by matching resources in one
region of the state
with the needs of companies in another region.
A series of meetings between these leaders sparked the
establishment of the Virginia Economic Bridge, Inc. (VEB).
VEB functions as a broker: introducing business people from Southwestern and Northern Virginia, assisting companies in relocation or expanding to Southwestern Virginia, and matching purchasing agents around the commonwealth with in-state suppliers. Currently, VEB is a non-profit corporation located at Radford University. Active involvement by community leaders from the public and private sectors has allowed VEB to expand its efforts to include more direct contributions to regional economic growth.
